Australia advises a high degree of caution for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Exercise caution throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina because uncleared minefields remain along transit roads, warning signs may be hidden, and leaving paved roads can be fatal even near the capital. Do not stray from marked roads. Medical care is not assured outside large cities; meningitis cases occur around Banja Luka and Prijedor, and measles are resurging, while some vaccines may be unavailable. Consider additional insurance for illness and medical transport.
Exercise a high degree of caution in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of crime, terrorism, demonstrations, dangerous roads, unmarked mines and unexploded ordnance, especially in rural and isolated mountainous areas. Stay on paved surfaces, travel by day, avoid abandoned buildings and isolated places after dark, and do not touch relics or unknown items. Petty crime affects cities. Sarajevo has burglaries and armed violence, and thieves target foreigners on Trebevic mountain.
Exercise increased caution when travelling to Bosnia and Herzegovina because of heightened political tension and an ongoing constitutional crisis. Monitor media, avoid demonstrations and areas with visibly greater police presence. The likelihood of a security incident is considered low, but travellers should remain cautious.
Bosnia and Herzegovina: use increased caution; carry winter tyres from November to April and snow chains. Reconsider winter travel due to severe air pollution; expect delays between Bosnia and Croatia. Carry documents and repatriation insurance, guard against theft, and avoid forests and unknown terrain with mines; rain and thawing can cause landslides on the M17 route. Check Sarajevo flights due to the Iranian conflict; earthquakes are common but usually harmless.
Exercise increased caution in Bosnia and Herzegovina because of crime, landmines, terrorist violence in the Balkans region, and political unrest that may affect bystanders. Sarajevo has a high rate of property crime, including robberies, residential and vehicle break-ins, and theft; petty crime is also common in tourist areas. Landmines and unexploded ordnance exist throughout the country, although suspected hazardous areas are normally clearly marked.
Japan advises normal precautions for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
No advice against travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina applies; travel is generally safe when usual precautions are followed. Continued vigilance remains necessary.
Use normal precautions and remain alert. Pickpocketing, armed robbery, car break-ins and drink-spiking are risks, particularly in Sarajevo, other large cities and tourist areas; demonstrations can erupt with little warning in the capital and other large cities. Serious traffic accidents, landmines in former war areas, earthquakes, floods, landslides and wildfires also pose risks, so remain on established roads and avoid driving outside cities after dark.
Because Estonia has no representation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, consult other countries' travel information and travel alerts. Unexploded landmines or other ammunition may be found in less travelled places in mountain and rural areas. When hiking, prefer marked trails or use a guide.
Germany advises normal precautions for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hong Kong advises normal precautions for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Exercise normal precautions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but remain vigilant for terrorist attacks in crowded areas. Avoid protests because violence is possible. Landmines remain a danger in isolated mountain and countryside areas and Sarajevo's immediate hinterland, so do not stray from roads or paved areas without an experienced guide. Crime is relatively low, but secure valuables and train compartments, and be cautious driving after dark outside larger towns.
Take normal precautions against pickpocketing, theft, terrorism, and discrimination or aggression if you are LGBT+. Do not use, possess or sell drugs, including soft drugs, or photograph military personnel, police, airports and border posts. Avoid wild camping and stay on marked paths or main roads because of landmines. Prepare for floods, wildfires, earthquakes and winter avalanches, especially off-piste. Winter air pollution is higher in Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Tuzla.
Singapore does not advise against travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Guard against petty crime in tourist areas and avoid less populated areas and late night bars because gang violence can occur, although foreigners are typically not targeted. Landmines remain a risk in rural areas, so stay on main roads and paved surfaces and avoid isolated areas, abandoned buildings and villages.
Use normal precautions because no security reasons warrant discouraging travel, but be alert to theft, robbery, criminal clashes, protests causing traffic disruption, migration routes and landmines. Avoid protests and unmarked paths, forests and grassland, and use paved or hardened routes. Secure valuables and documents, carry travel and health insurance, and use winter equipment from November to April. Drivers from Republika Srbska may refuse trips into the Federation and vice versa.
Take normal precautions when travelling to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eligible short visits are visa-free for up to 90 days within six months; longer stays require a residence permit. Declare prohibited or taxable goods. Health risks include biting insects, ticks and high air pollution levels; facilities are limited outside Sarajevo and major towns, and European or global health insurance cards do not cover the country, so have insurance.
