Germany13 in parts
Travel warning for parts

Germany advises a high degree of caution for Côte d'Ivoire, and avoiding all travel for parts of it.

Level since 15 Sep 2022
Japan13 in parts
Level 1 for the whole country: take sufficient care; level 3 or 4 for named regions: do not travel, or evacuate

Avoid all travel to the Mali and Burkina Faso borders, northeastern Comoé National Park and parts of the Ghana border because armed groups remain active and terrorism cannot be ruled out further south. Avoid non-essential travel to northern Dongouélé and Savanes, northern Vavre du Bandama and Zanzan, and the Liberia border, including Tai National Park, because surveillance is difficult and community tensions are a concern. Take sufficient care elsewhere, including Odienné, Boundouk and Montagnes outside the specified border and park areas.

Colour code yellow: pay attention, there are safety risks; red (do not travel) for named regions

Avoid all travel to the border areas with Mali and Burkina Faso because terrorist attacks and kidnappings are a risk. Travel only if essential to the roughly 20 kilometre border area with Liberia, including Taï, Grabo and Tabou, where armed attacks can occur. Elsewhere, exercise caution because of violence, robbery, pickpocketing, roadside extortion, demonstrations that may turn violent, and harsh drug penalties; avoid road travel at night.

Avoid all travel within 40km of the Burkina Faso and Mali borders because of terrorist attacks and kidnappings by terrorists based in the Sahel region. Also avoid all travel to Northern Zanzan and Savanes provinces and Comoé National Park. Avoid all but essential travel within 20km of the Liberia border because local militias may clash with security forces.

Level since 2 Nov 2026
Austria02 in parts
Security level 1: good security; security level 3: high security risk for named regions

Avoid non-essential travel because criminal and terrorist activity creates a high risk nationwide, and attacks on Western interests or Austrian nationals cannot be ruled out. Take particular care in border areas, Bouaké and on the road to Korhogo, and avoid the Comoé National Park and Bouna. In Abidjan, crime has increased: avoid walking outside hotels after dusk, avoid police and military sites, and avoid night driving.

No advice against travel; advises against non-essential travel for named regions

Travel can generally proceed with normal precautions while avoiding specified areas. Avoid the Mali and Burkina Faso border areas, Comoé National Park, and Bouna and surroundings; non-essential travel to the Liberia border is discouraged. Terrorist threats warrant heightened vigilance at crowded, unsecured locations, including Abidjan. Arrivals from Ebola-affected countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, must undergo screening and may be observed for 21 days.

Canada1High caution
Exercise a high degree of caution; regional advisory

Exercise a high degree of caution because petty crime occurs nationwide, violent crime occurs at night in Abidjan, and terrorism threatens the country. Avoid all travel to within 50 km of Mali and Burkina Faso borders due to terrorism. Avoid non-essential travel within 25 km of Liberia's border in Cavally, San Pedro and Tonkpi due to crime, insecurity and community conflict. Beware of armed ambushes on secondary or deserted roads.

Cz level 1

Avoid all travel to northeastern Côte d'Ivoire, especially eastern Savanes and northern Zanzan districts, because of terrorist attacks and abductions. Avoid border areas with Liberia, Mali and Burkina Faso due to armed robberies. Elsewhere, exercise increased caution because of street crime, armed bandit attacks, theft and robbery. Avoid night driving and going out alone after dark, conceal valuables, avoid demonstrations and gatherings, and do not resist an attack.

Ireland1High caution
High degree of caution

Exercise a high degree of caution in Côte d’Ivoire. Avoid all travel along the Mali and Burkina Faso borders, northern Zanzan and Savenes provinces, and Comoé National Park because of terrorism and kidnapping; avoid all but essential travel along the Liberia border because of militia violence. Protests may turn violent, while armed robberies affect the Yamoussoukro-Korogho and Abidjan-Yamoussoukro highways. Terrorist attacks, poor roads and strong coastal currents are risks.

Slovenia1High caution
Increased caution

Exercise increased caution because terrorism, violent crime, armed clashes and banditry are significant risks. Avoid the 40 kilometre border strip with Mali and Burkina Faso, Zanzan and Savanes provinces, Comoé National Park, and the Liberia border area. Elsewhere, check local conditions, avoid protests, secure valuables and be alert to theft, poor roads, limited emergency services outside Abidjan, and infectious diseases.

United States1High caution
Level 2: exercise increased caution

Exercise increased caution in Côte d’Ivoire due to crime, terrorism, unrest, health risks, and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. Avoid demonstrations and large crowds; terrorist attacks can occur without warning at venues nationwide. Violent crime and unofficial roadblocks are concerns; U.S. government services are limited outside Abidjan. U.S. citizens should not drive outside major cities at night and should use two-car convoys outside coastal and major north-south highways.

Estonia0Normal precautions
Ee level 0

Exercise normal precautions, but avoid border areas because of the unstable security situation. Travel is especially discouraged near Liberia, within 20 kilometres of the border, and Mali and Burkina Faso, within 40 kilometres. Because Estonia has no embassy there, consult other countries' travel information. Estonian citizens need a visa, and drivers need both a valid Estonian licence and a Vienna Convention international permit.

No advisory

Exercise the usual precautions when travelling to Côte d'Ivoire, as no advisory is in force.
