Australia advises a high degree of caution for Chile.
Exercise caution throughout Chile due to security risks. Robbery and violent assaults recur in Santiago and its airport area, and in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar, while car burglaries and theft are common. Avoid demonstrations, gatherings and remote roads after dark in Biobío, Araucanía, Los Lagos and Los Ríos, where activist attacks, arson and roadblocks can harm bystanders. At Chile's northern border with Peru, use paved roads because landmines may remain.
Exercise a high degree of caution in Chile because demonstrations, civil unrest, and crime create risks including petty theft, armed robbery, express kidnapping, and terrorism. In larger cities, remain vigilant for distraction theft and carjackings, and avoid walking after dark around Cerro Alegre, Cerro San Cristóbal, and Bellavista and Barrio Lastarria. Use extra caution in Araucanía and Biobío, where violent protests, barricades, looting, arson, and fatal shootings have occurred.
Exercise increased caution in northern Chile, particularly Coquimbo and Huasco in Atacama, where a disaster state has been declared because of heavy rain, flooding, landslides, power outages and drinking water disruption. Travel in Coquimbo and Atacama may carry increased safety risks. Across Chile, remain alert and follow local media reports, as a powerful frontal system affected Valparaíso, Santiago Metropolitan Region, O'Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, Biobío, La Araucanía and Los Ríos.
Exercise caution due to crime, terrorism, earthquakes and tsunami risk; demonstrations are more common in Santiago and Valparaíso. Robbery and theft occur in many cities; avoid displaying valuables and do not resist attacks. Stay clear of unrest in Araucanía near Temuco, Biobío, Los Lagos and Los Ríos, where emergency powers apply in Araucanía, Biobío and Arauco provinces. Near Peru, Bolivia and Argentina borders, respect landmine warnings and avoid unmarked routes.
Japan advises a high degree of caution for Chile.
Avoid the affected area around Tocopilla because severe weather has caused landslides, flooding, closed roads and evacuations. Be alert in Araucanía around Temuco and Arauco Province, where attacks have occurred amid Mapuche tensions and states of emergency are in force. Street theft is greatest in tourist areas of Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and northern cities. Natural hazards include earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and wildfires.
Exercise increased caution in Chile due to crime, unrest, and health risks. Petty crime is common, violent crime also occurs, and large demonstrations in Santiago and other cities can disrupt transportation. A health notice for Andes virus (Hantavirus) applies in the Andes region, although the risk for most travelers is extremely low.
Exercise normal precautions, with increased caution for extreme weather, violent demonstrations and theft. Monitor weather warnings in the Metropolitan Region, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Maule, Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins, Ñuble and Biobío. Avoid Santiago demonstrations, especially around La Moneda, Alameda and Recoleta’s Central Cemetery, and outer districts after dark. Mapuche areas in Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Los Lagos face violence, so avoid mass demonstrations and road travel after dark.
Travel to Chile can generally proceed with normal precautions, but ensure you have sufficient funds for emergencies, travel insurance, and international health coverage including repatriation. Easter Island (Rapa Nui) has a maximum stay of 30 consecutive days and requires a return or onward ticket, a passport valid for the full stay, proof of accommodation registered with local authorities, and a specific entry form completed before travel.
Normal precautions apply. As Estonia has no embassy in Chile, consult other countries’ travel information and alerts. Avoid demonstrations, especially in central Santiago, because peaceful gatherings can become violent. Drivers need a valid Estonian licence and a Geneva Convention international driving permit. Entry conditions and visa free stay of up to 90 days per half-year may change without notice.
Germany advises normal precautions for Chile.
Hong Kong advises normal precautions for Chile.
Take normal precautions in Chile, follow local instructions and avoid demonstrations because peaceful protests can become violent. Pickpocketing, theft and muggings are common at tourist sites and bus stations, so secure valuables and avoid walking alone late at night. Armed muggings are reported in tourist areas of Santiago and Valparaíso, and drink spiking in Suecia and Bellavista. Easter Island (Rapa Nui) has extra entry requirements, including a single entry form.
Exercise normal precautions in Chile. Be alert to theft, avoid displaying large amounts of cash or jewellery, use official taxis and reputable guides, and do not resist if robbed. Strict drink-driving rules, heavy penalties for drug offences, bribing police and open fires outside authorised campsites carry serious consequences. Consult a doctor about vaccinations and buy comprehensive travel insurance; forest fires, earthquakes and volcanic activity may occur, so follow local authorities.
Take normal precautions, as no security reasons warrant discouraging travel, but note wildfires and earthquakes. Travel on paved roads and check local advice near Peru and Bolivia in Regions XV, I and II, and near Argentina in Region XII because of minefields. Avoid protests and take extra care in Santiago, Araucanía around Temuco, Biobío, and Los Lagos and Los Ríos, where attacks occur; also guard against street and armed crime.
The UK advises normal precautions when travelling to Chile, with a passport valid after departure. Visits of up to 90 days are visa free, but keep the tourist card for exit; invalid documents can mean refusal of entry. British Chilean dual nationals must use a Chilean passport, and children travelling without all parents need notarised authorisation. Rapa Nui requires an entry form, return ticket and registered accommodation or invitation letter.
