Australia advises a high degree of caution for Cyprus.
Check with your airline before travelling to or from Cyprus because connections may be cancelled, and follow official media. Security level 2 applies, with the island divided and the Green Line buffer zone partly mined, although crime is low. Austrian consular assistance is limited in northern Cyprus. Entering the occupied north via Turkey is treated as illegal, with possible fines and longer questioning.
Take normal security precautions in Cyprus, but exercise a high degree of caution in northern Cyprus because of legal issues and limited consular assistance. Enter northern Cyprus only through legal, designated crossing points and observe restrictions. Petty crime, fraud, terrorism, demonstrations and dangerous coastal waters are risks. Seek authorization before entering the UN buffer zone, except in designated civil use areas, as some areas are mined and confrontations can occur.
There is no advice against travel. Monitor the fast-changing Middle East situation, follow local instructions and keep abreast of regional news. Protect against mosquitoes, especially in the evening, as West Nile virus infections increase; seek medical advice and mention recent travel if symptoms develop. Unpredictable wildfires can occur across Cyprus from early April through late October, causing power cuts, poor air quality and road closures, so follow local warnings.
Normal precautions include travel insurance and valid travel documents. Monitor notices because Middle East tensions may affect Cyprus, and prepare for wildfires, earthquakes, storms and floods. Enter the Republic only through legal entry points. Northern Cyprus differs with approved Green Line crossings and passport checks, no consular aid, EU roaming or European Health Insurance Card coverage; property ownership is disputed, and transactions without the owner's consent may lead to prosecution.
Germany advises normal precautions for Cyprus.
Hong Kong advises normal precautions for Cyprus.
Hungarian citizens should exercise normal precautions in Cyprus, where violent crime is low but seasonal theft, drug offences and alcohol related disorder can affect tourists. Avoid British bases at Akrotiri and Dhekelia because of instability, and do not enter the UN buffer zone. Terrorist attacks are unlikely but possible, while eastern Mediterranean tensions raise conflict risk. Northern crossings are illegal, so use Republic of Cyprus controlled airports and ports.
Take normal precautions and follow Cypriot safety protocols; the regional security situation may cause flight disruption or airspace closures. Do not enter the UN buffer zone except at designated crossings, and do not photograph it, military sites, personnel or equipment anywhere on the island. Crime is relatively low, but beware of pickpocketing and drink spiking, and drive with caution. Separate car insurance is required north of the buffer zone.
Japan advises normal precautions for Cyprus.
Take normal precautions against terrorism, theft and pickpocketing, avoid isolated areas and demonstrations, and follow authorities during disasters. Travel from the Republic of Cyprus to North Cyprus is allowed, but northern entry via Ercan or boat is deemed illegal and may lead to fines or imprisonment. Do not enter military zones or the buffer zone except at official checkpoints. In North Cyprus, check surrogacy risks and hotel or property documents.
Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Cyprus. Petty theft occurs particularly in crowded and tourist areas; safeguard valuables, take care at ATMs and monitor accounts because credit-card fraud may occur. Drug offences carry strict penalties, and entering or exiting through North Cyprus ports or airports may be treated as illegal by Republic of Cyprus authorities.
Use usual precautions in the Republic of Cyprus. In the north, consular protection is limited; do not enter or cross the UN buffer zone outside official checkpoints, as some areas are mined, and entry via unofficial northern ports or airports is illegal. Unauthorized entry or photography at British bases is prohibited; seek legal advice before buying northern property. Be alert for wildfires, earthquakes and road hazards.
Normal precautions apply, as the UK gives no warning for travel to Cyprus. Time spent in the north counts towards the Republic of Cyprus visa-free limit; entering the Republic via Ercan Airport may be treated as illegal entry, leading to fines or refusal. Customs controls apply to goods carried from the north across the Green Line, including goods from Pyla in the buffer zone.
Exercise normal precautions in Cyprus, although some areas have increased risk and armed conflict is noted. Do not enter the United Nations buffer zone except at designated crossing points, as police and UN peacekeeping forces enforce the restriction. Hostilities between the United States and Iran disrupted commercial flights, and a drone struck a building in the British Sovereign Base Area on March 2, 2026.
