Austria13 in parts
Security level 2: security risk; security level 4: travel warning for named regions

Avoid travel within 50 kilometres of the Thai border because the ceasefire is fragile and may deteriorate. Elsewhere in Cambodia, exercise caution because robbery and theft occur, including violent attacks in Phnom Penh’s river area, Sihanoukville beaches and tourist excursions; avoid motorcycle and bicycle taxis. Mine risk is high outside urban centres, particularly in border provinces including Siem Reap, so avoid trekking and solo travel without a local agency.

Be extra careful; avoid all travel for named regions

Avoid all travel to a 20 km zone along the Thai border because the border conflict is unstable, unpredictable and may worsen without warning. If travelling elsewhere, seek professional advice and be careful about crime, pickpocketing and bag snatching in Phnom Penh, including from passing motorbikes. Avoid demonstrations and stay on established paths near Thai border temples because of landmines, and prepare for seasonal floods, fuel shortages and dangerous traffic.

Not on the list; on the travel-not-recommended list for named regions; hu class

Travel with heightened caution because crime, armed robbery, landmines, monsoon landslides, online job scams and forced labour are risks. Avoid travel to Preah Vihear Province and the Cambodian Thai border areas, particularly within 50 to 80 km of the border, where conditions remain unsettled and crossings are closed. Use reputable guides outside Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Angkor Wat, and avoid remote temples.

Level 1 for the whole country: take sufficient care; level 3 or 4 for named regions: do not travel, or evacuate

Avoid all travel within 30 kilometres of the Thai border because heavy weapons have not been withdrawn, tensions continue, and accidental clashes remain possible. Avoid non-essential travel between 30 and 50 kilometres from the border, where the situation is more stable after six months without military conflict. Elsewhere in Cambodia, take sufficient care. Foreigners travelling for work should verify the employer and job information because some have been detained and coerced into unlawful work.

Colour code yellow: pay attention, there are safety risks; red (do not travel) for named regions

Avoid the border strip within 5 kilometres of Cambodia's Thai border because the border is closed, army checkpoints operate, landmines may be present and the situation remains unpredictable. Travel only if essential to areas 5 to 20 kilometres from the border. Elsewhere in Cambodia, exercise caution due to bag snatching, armed robbery in Sihanoukville, drink spiking, forced labour, discrimination and flooding. Drugs, public criticism and temple conduct carry severe penalties.

Exercise caution, remain vigilant; defer all travel for named regions

Defer all travel to conflict areas in the Thai-Cambodian border regions because tensions are ongoing. Elsewhere, monitor official news, follow local government advice and remain vigilant. Petty theft is common in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, with hotspots on the Phnom Penh riverfront and in BKK areas and on Sihanoukville beaches; avoid walking alone at night, late-night travel and dimly lit areas.

Increased caution; highest caution: avoid all travel or leave for named regions

Exercise increased caution and avoid all travel within 50 kilometres of the Cambodia-Thailand border, where security remains tense and unpredictable despite the ceasefire; the land border remains closed. Be alert to pickpocketing, fake dollars and scam centres, and avoid protests. Travel in tourist groups, use reputable jungle guides, stay on main rural roads because mines are unmarked, and beware of road accidents, unsafe vessels, mosquito-borne diseases and waterborne infection.

Exercise a high degree of caution; regional advisory

Exercise a high degree of caution in Cambodia because petty crime is frequent. Avoid all travel within 50 kilometres of the Cambodia-Thailand border because armed clashes have made security unpredictable and landmines and unexploded ordnance are present. Landmines also affect rural areas and the Preah Vihear Phnom Kulen and River of a Thousand Lingas areas, while theft is concentrated in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.

Cz level 1

Czech authorities advise against non-essential travel within 30 km of the Thai border in all provinces sharing that border because conditions remain unstable and unexploded ordnance is present. Travel to other provinces requires increased caution and compliance with local authorities. All land crossings with Thailand are closed to everyone, including tourists, while air services currently operate without restriction but may change quickly. The border temples Preah Vihear and Ta Krabey are closed.

No advice against travel

Avoid all travel to Thai-border districts in Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pailin, Pursat and Koh Kong because of past armed conflict, possible isolated incidents and mines. Increase vigilance in other districts of these provinces and throughout the rest of Cambodia, following military and local instructions. Testing and medical facilities are very limited; serious conditions usually require medical repatriation, so insurance covering COVID-19 and repatriation is essential.

Normal precautions

Take normal precautions in Cambodia, but avoid all travel within 20 km of the Thai-Cambodian border because armed clashes have caused deaths and land mines remain. Border crossings may be restricted, air travel disrupted, and the situation fluid despite a ceasefire. Elsewhere, avoid crowds and political demonstrations, take precautions against petty crime, and stay on main routes in rural northern Cambodia, where unexploded ordnance remains a hazard.
