Slovenia1High caution
Increased caution

Exercise increased caution because tourism capacity and medical facilities on Nauru are very limited. During the monsoon season, tropical storms and cyclones can cause floods and landslides. It warns of opportunistic crime, dengue, chikungunya, HIV/AIDS, costly medical evacuation to New Zealand or Australia, dangerous animals, earthquakes and tsunamis. Coastal roads are satisfactory, but inland roads are not paved, so avoid driving after dark and use extra care in wet weather.

Security level 1: good security

Normal precautions are advised in Nauru. Violent crime is rare, but pickpocketing and traffic violations occur; use strong insect protection, avoid tap water, and note minimal rabies risk from infected bats. Earthquakes are possible, medical care is basic and usually requires immediate cash payment, and comprehensive insurance is strongly advised. A visa must be arranged before arrival; homosexuality is not generally accepted, so visitors should respect local attitudes.

Canada0Normal precautions
Exercise normal security precautions

Exercise normal security precautions in Nauru because tourist facilities are extremely limited, although petty theft may occur. Beaches may lack lifeguards, tidal currents and riptides are common, and rescue services may be inconsistent, so consult residents and wear reef shoes. For diving and adventure tourism, use reputable insured operators, never travel alone, and check weather and hazards. Avoid driving after dark and be extra vigilant during the rainy season.

Estonia0Normal precautions
Ee level 0

Normal precautions apply in Nauru, but Estonia has no diplomatic representation and other EU member states also lack representations, making consular assistance extremely difficult after passport theft, loss or detention. Estonian citizens need a visa, and Nauru may change entry and stay conditions without promptly notifying other countries. Confirm passport validity and any additional entry requirements before departure.

Colour code green: no special risks

Exercise normal precautions on Nauru, securing valuables because theft and robbery are uncommon. All drugs are prohibited and LGBTQ+ travellers may face discrimination or aggression. Tropical storms occur year-round, especially from November to April, and currents are dangerous along reefs and at outgoing tide; follow local guidance. Health care is limited, so insurance is crucial; a visa and Australian dollars are required, as only cash payments work.
