What each government says

Its level on one scale, its own wording, and a summary of its advice written from its own text

Japan12 in parts
Level 1 for the whole country: take sufficient care; level 2 for named regions: avoid non-essential travel

Avoid nonessential travel to areas near the Afghanistan border where entry is restricted, and to mountain areas along the Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan borders in Namangan, Andijan and Fergana provinces, including the Sof and Shahiharmaldan enclaves. Elsewhere, including Tashkent, take sufficient care and follow basic safety precautions because unexpected incidents remain possible. Security elsewhere is described as calm and stable.

Netherlands12 in parts
Colour code yellow: pay attention, there are safety risks; orange (essential travel only) for named regions

Travel only if essential to the Termez region and the border strip within 5 kilometres of Afghanistan, because rocket attacks are possible and the border is closed. Elsewhere in Uzbekistan, exercise caution due to terrorism, petty crime, earthquakes, strict drug penalties and discrimination or violence against LGBTQ+ people. Air pollution is especially poor in Tashkent and the Fergan Valley, and remains poor throughout the year in Karakalpakstan and Khorezm.

Security level 2: security risk

Travel to Uzbekistan with caution because of the security risk, common police checks and petty theft. Avoid walking after dark, night overland travel, demonstrations and crowds, follow police instructions, and carry your passport and a copy of your registration confirmation. Be careful in border areas near Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, including the Fergana Valley, where borders are disputed and mines may be present. The land border with Afghanistan is closed.

Canada1High caution
Exercise normal security precautions; regional advisory

Exercise normal security precautions in Uzbekistan, but avoid all travel within 5 kilometres of the Afghan border because of terrorism and a dangerous security situation. Be alert for terrorism, petty crime, fraud, landmines near the Tajik and Kyrgyz borders, border tensions, and demonstrations that may become violent. Petty crime is more frequent at night in Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand and Ferghana, while demonstrations are a particular concern in Karakalpakstan.

Ireland1High caution
High degree of caution

Exercise a high degree of caution in Uzbekistan. Avoid travel to areas bordering Afghanistan, including Termez, where border crossings are closed. Take particular care near the Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan borders because security incidents have been reported and some areas are mined. Be especially careful in the Fergana Valley, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, remain vigilant for terrorism and petty crime, and drive cautiously because roads are poor and badly lit.

Slovenia1High caution
Increased caution

Travel to Uzbekistan with increased caution, and be especially vigilant in areas bordering Afghanistan because security can change rapidly. Carry valid documents because police checks are frequent, avoid demonstrations and crowds, guard against petty theft, and note that terrorist attacks cannot be ruled out. Watch for typhus, rabies and tuberculosis, monitor winter air pollution in Tashkent, and follow rules on medicines, photography and night driving.
