Kenya posts a record high for September visitor arrivals

Kenya recorded 204,496 visitor arrivals in September 2024, up 10.1% on the same month a year before and 51.7% above the average of the three years before. The total was the highest for the calendar month on record and extended the run of monthly gains to nine in a row. Year to date arrivals stood 16.4% above the same months in the previous year.

August 2024 remained the peak month on record at 249,086, up 13.6% on a year and 67.4% above the three year average. July followed at 226,951, up 7.7% and 53.8% respectively, while June reached 202,617, up 13.8% and 62.6%. Earlier months, May at 170,197 and April at 154,211, showed larger year on year gains of 21.1% and 18.1%, with both sitting 68.1% above the three year average.

Kenya ranked second among ten Middle East and Africa countries for year on year change in September 2024. Alongside the arrivals data, the world jet fuel price stood at $1.98 a gallon in the same month, down 36.5% on a year earlier. Economic growth in Kenya was recorded at 4.7% for 2024.
