Belgium logs record July arrivals while European rivals post stronger gains

Belgium received 1,095,590 arrivals in July 2026, the highest figure for this calendar month on record. The result was 4.6% above the same month a year earlier and stood at 113.5% of the level recorded in July 2019. Against the average of the three years before, the month was up 8.7%.

The latest figure followed a mixed run. June 2026 fell 4.4% on a year to 930,787 arrivals, while May 2026 rose 2.6% to 1,014,645. Earlier months showed April 2026 down 2.6% at 932,799, March 2026 up 2.9% at 698,722, and February 2026 down 4.3% at 582,026. The year to date stood unchanged against the same period a year earlier.

Belgium ranked 20th among 37 European countries by change on a year for July 2026. Regional peers posted stronger gains, with Poland up 11.4%, Sweden up 11.3% and Slovenia up 10.9%. Czechia rose 7.4%, Hungary 6.2% and Norway 1.3%. The world jet fuel price stood at $3.40 a gallon, 51.6% higher than a year earlier, while economic growth of 0.7% is projected for 2026.
